Workforce Responses to Family Violence

“Leading the way: workplace and workforce innovations to address family violence” forum

On May 31st, in partnership with the Regional Family Violence Partnership (RFVP), we presented the forum “Leading the way: workplace and workforce innovations to address family violence”.

This forum was designed to share the learnings of local organisations in how they support their staff, personally and professional, in addressing family violence. Over 40 organisations and 80 participants joined us for the event.

Guest speakers included Ilana Jaffe Project Coordinator Inner North West Primary Care Partnership and Pia Cerveri Women’s & Equality Co-Lead Organiser. Ilana spoke about the family violence work in the North West Metropolitan Region including the development of a client policy templateresponding to staff disclosures of family violence policy templatemanagement training package and guidelines for identifying and responding to people who cause family violence harm. Pia discussed how organisations can be responding to family violence as a workplace issue.

We heard from a range of organisations about what they were doing at a local level – Robert Morgan (Yarra Valley Water) talked about how the development of their family violence staff program, Kathy Oliver (Yarra Ranges Council) spoke about the role of gender equity advocates and their journey in leading change. Katherine Dowson (Eastern Health) talked about the Strengthening Hospitals Response to Family Violence project while Belinda Lo and Marika Manioudakis (Eastern Community Legal Centre) shared their learnings of working with a perpetrator. Youna Kim (EDVOS) talked about the amazing and comprehensive framework EDVOS have to support their staff.
